The Chen Clan Ancestral Hall, also known as the Chen Academy, is one of the most iconic traditional buildings in Guangzhou. Often called “the crown temple of Guangdong”, it is the largest and most well-preserved ancestral temple in Lingnan architectural style.

🏯 Chen Clan Ancestral Hall: A Lingnan Architectural Masterpiece

Museum: Guangdong Folk Arts Museum (inside the complex)

Known as the “Pearl of Lingnan Architecture,” the Chen Clan Ancestral Hall is the largest, best-preserved, and most ornately decorated ancestral temple structure in the Lingnan region. Also referred to as “Chen Clan Academy,” it holds the honorary title of “The Leading Ancestral Hall of Canton” and has been listed as one of the "New Eight Scenic Spots of Guangzhou" under the title "Glory of the Ancient Clan Hall."

The architecture showcases the finest of Lingnan craftsmanship, particularly the "Three Carvings, Two Mouldings, One Casting, and One Painting":

- Two Mouldings: ceramic and grey
- One Casting: metalwork
- One Painting: colorful murals

The 2,448 m² of grey sculpting across the halls is the largest in Lingnan.

The site also houses the Guangdong Folk Arts Museum, with over 20,000 artifacts, representing every national-level intangible cultural heritage craft in Guangdong. It is the province's richest museum of folk arts, and was designated a National First-Class Museum in 2017.
