The Guangzhou Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall was built with funds raised by the people of Guangzhou and overseas Chinese to commemorate Dr. Sun Yat-sen, the great revolutionary forerunner of China.
The hall stands on the former site of the Presidential Palace where Dr. Sun Yat-sen once served as the Extraordinary President of the Republic of China.

It was designed by the renowned Chinese architect Lü Yanzhi.

### Spatial Design
The Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall is an outstanding example in Guangzhou of the organic integration of traditional Chinese architectural style with Western structural techniques.

The exterior imitates the architectural form of Song Dynasty palace buildings, featuring an octagonal pointed roof covered with brilliant blue glazed tiles, complemented by red doors and windows with four hip-and-gable roofs at the 4 cardinal directions.
Inside, advanced steel and reinforced concrete structural technologies are employed, creating a vast space that reaches an impressive 71 meters without a single pillar in the middle, an impressive engineering achievement for its construction period (1929-1931).

The building incorporates 3 symbolic 3 golden glass beads reflecting Dr. Sun Yat-sen's legacy: the 3 Principles of the People (Nationalism, Democracy, and People's Livelihood)
