About Sun Yat-sen

Sun Yat-sen 孙中山 (1866-1925) is widely regarded as the founding father of modern China. A revolutionary, political thinker, and reformer, he played a key role in ending the Qing Dynasty and establishing the Republic of China.
He advocated modernization, democracy, and national unity, ideas that continue to influence China today. His legacy remains deeply rooted in Zhongshan, his birthplace.

About the location

Located in Cuiheng Village, facing the Pearl River estuary and backed by the Wugui Mountains, this historic site marks where Sun Yat-sen was born and spent his early years. This village not only shaped his worldview but also became his first testing ground for social reform ideas.

## About the building

The “Western-Style House” has been designed by Sun Yat-sen himself, this two-story red-brick house blends Western architectural elements with a traditional Chinese interior. It is the only house in the village facing west.
Locals affectionately call it 西装屋 , the “Western Suit House.”

Inside the residence

  • A preserved couplet he inscribed: “A humble home secured, a peaceful life in Wugui Mountain”
  • A historic tamarind tree brought back from Honolulu, still standing in the courtyard
  • The family’s original farmland, known as Longtian. a real living museum of farming considered as China’s first of its kind. children can experience traditional agricultural life such as planting and harvesting → a great educational destination for families
