The Five Rams Statue & the Legend of Guangzhou
A key cultural symbol associated with Guangzhou is the legend of the Five Rams (or Five Goats).
According to ancient legend, Guangzhou once suffered from famine. One day, five immortals descended from the sky, each riding a ram and carrying stalks of rice. They offered the rice to the people and blessed the land so that it would never again suffer from hunger. After delivering their gift, the immortals disappeared, and the rams turned into stone.
