Located next to Shenzhen, Dongguan is globally recognized as a manufacturing powerhouse, yet it also boasts rich Lingnan cultural heritage and distinctive local traditions.

Known as the hometown of dragon boat racing, lion dancing, and folk music, Dongguan is also the birthplace of the renowned Lingnan School of Painting, which originated from Ke Garden, one of Guangdong’s Four Famous Classical Gardens .
The city’s Yuehui Garden blends the grandeur of imperial gardens, the elegance of Jiangnan landscapes, and the charm of Lingnan architecture.

Dongguan’s historical legacy lives on through landmarks like the Ying’en Gate Tower, with its Ming Dynasty foundation preserved as a cultural treasure. In the suburbs, ancient villages such as Li’s Ancestral Hall, Nanshe Ancient Village, Nishui Liugui Fortresses, and Tangwei Village offer visitors a glimpse into the traditions of Lingnan and Guangzhou cultures.

Dongguan also holds an important place in modern Chinese history. The Humen Opium War Museum and Naval Battle Museum serve as patriotic education bases, commemorating the nation’s past struggles. ### Intercity Rail
Dongguan is well-connected to Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and Hong Kong via high-speed rail:

  • Dongguan Railway Station (Guangzhou-Shenzhen Line) → Guangzhou / Shenzhen
  • Dongguan South Station (Ganzhou-Shenzhen High-Speed Line) → Shenzhen North / Jiangxi
  • Humen Station (Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong High-Speed Rail) → Guangzhou South / Shenzhen North / Hong Kong West Kowloon

Tips:
- To Hong Kong: Humen Station → Hong Kong West Kowloon (about 40 minutes)
