Founded in 1983 and opened to the public in 1988, Xianhu Botanical Garden was created as a center for plant conservation, scientific research, environmental education, and tourism.

Covering 668 hectares at the foot of Wutong Mountain, Shenzhen's highest peak, the garden is named after Fairy Lake 仙湖 Xianhu, a scenic lake surrounded by lush hills and forests. Today, it is home to nearly 12,000 plant species and welcomes millions of visitors each year, making it one of the most important botanical gardens in southern China.

A World of Plants

Xianhu Botanical Garden features its collection of plants across themed gardens and conservation areas. You can explore bamboo groves, palm gardens, medicinal plant collections, aquatic landscapes, desert plant displays, orchid gardens, and bonsai exhibitions. The garden is also an important center for botanical research and environmental education in China.

Hongfa Temple and Fairy Lake

One of the garden's most famous attractions is Hongfa Temple, a renowned Buddhist temple located within the park. Visitors can combine a peaceful walk through the botanical gardens with a cultural and spiritual experience at the temple. The picturesque Fairy Lake, from which the garden takes its name, offers beautiful scenery throughout the year.

Escape from the City

Despite being located in Shenzhen, the garden feels far removed from the urban skyline. Walking trails, lakeside viewpoints, mountain scenery, and seasonal flower displays create a relaxing atmosphere for visitors seeking a break from city life. The park is particularly popular during spring and autumn when flowers are in bloom and temperatures are pleasant.
