Flower Pagoda (Liurong Temple)
Rising to a height of 57.6 meters, the Flower Pagoda at Liurong Temple is the tallest surviving Song Dynasty pagoda in Lingnan. With its bright red pillars and glazed tiles, the pagoda resembles a blooming lotus when viewed from above — hence its poetic nickname.
The temple has ties to Tang and Song Dynasty literary giants. Wang Bo, one of the “Four Talents of Early Tang,” composed a stele inscription for the sacred relic tower here. Four centuries later, Su Dongpo (Su Shi) visited and inscribed the words "Liurong" (Six Banyans) upon seeing six grand banyan trees beside the pagoda — giving the temple its enduring name.
