About the Space

The building's triangular forms respond to the surrounding landscape and the meeting of waterways around Chunmuyuan Town. The architecture is integrated with an infinity pool, allowing the building, sky, water and mountains to appear as one composition.

The triangular peak is one of the most recognisable features of the Chapel of Song.

From outside, the sharp geometric roofline creates a distinctive silhouette against the surrounding mountains. Inside, triangular openings and skylights continue the same architectural language, directing the visitor's attention upward and bringing natural light deep into the building.

The triangular geometry is not simply decorative. It creates changing perspectives as visitors move through the building, with openings gradually revealing the surrounding landscape.

Main Hall

Despite its name, the Chapel of Song is more than a conventional religious building.

The main hall is the spiritual and architectural centre of the complex. It can accommodate approximately 400 people and is designed for concerts, poetry, weddings, and cultural events. The high-volume interior contrasts with the lower and more enclosed entrance corridor, creating a gradual transition from compression to openness.

The hall contains a large pipe organ, when music is played, the concrete architecture acts as a resonant acoustic environment, reinforcing Ando's idea of architecture as an instrument.

The Green Apple

Another distinctive element is the green apple sculpture placed beside the water.

The apple is associated with Ando's concept of “Eternal Youth” and has appeared in several of his architectural projects. At the Chapel of Song, the vivid green sculpture contrasts with the restrained concrete architecture and the surrounding water.
