Yingde , historically known as Yingzhou, is a county-level city administered by Qingyuan in north-central Guangdong Province. With more than 2,200 years of administrative history, it is one of the region’s historically significant destinations and part of the cultural landscape of Lingnan, southern China.

Covering around 5634 km², Yingde is the largest county in Guangdong.
The city is also known for its agricultural resources and local specialities, particularly Yingde Black Tea (英德红茶) and mǎzhú bamboo shoots.

About Yingde Black Tea 英德红茶

Tea cultivation in Yingde has a long history, and the area developed into a major black tea production centre during the 20th century. Its tea industry combines established processing techniques with modern production and export.
Yingde Black Tea is commonly described as rich, smooth, sweet and aromatic.

As you can discover reading our article "Introduction to Cantonese Tea Culture", black tea production involves withering, rolling, oxidation and drying.
Each stage affects the final tea’s colour, fragrance and taste.
Depending on the variety and processing method, its flavour may feature notes of malt, flowers, fruit or cocoa.

One of the best-known varieties is Yinghong N°9, a cultivar developed for black tea production that has become closely associated with Yingde’s tea industry. Moreover, a dedicated agricultural and touristic cluster called the Yingde Tea World has been developped thanks to success and global spread of the Yinghong n°9, mainly appreciated for its pronounced fragrance, bright reddish liquor and rounded taste.

About the Landscapes

Walking through tea gardens is one of the best ways to appreciate Yingde’s agricultural landscape. Rows of tea bushes cover rolling hills, while the surrounding countryside provides a peaceful setting for photography and outdoor exploration.

Some tea tourism destinations also offer guided introductions to cultivation, leaf picking and processing. Activities vary by venue and season, so our center can help you to contact the gardens before visiting if you want a hands-on experience.

Beyond tea, Yingde is known for its limestone landscapes such as Little Guilin nestled inside the Yingxi Peak Forest, rivers, caves and rural villages, making the city a good option if you want to explore Guangdong beyond its major urban centres.
