Chongxi Pagoda is one of the city’s most iconic historical landmarks. Standing on the north bank of the Dongxi River, this elegant pagoda has watched over Zhaoqing for more than 400 years and remains a symbol of the city’s cultural heritage.

Chongxi Pagoda' site is also home to the Matteo Ricci & Sino-Western Culture Exchange Museum, adding an important cultural dimension to the site.

History and Architecture

Chongxi Pagoda was built between 1582 and 1585 during the Ming Dynasty, under the Wanli Emperor.

According to local Feng Shui beliefs, the pagoda was constructed to stabilize the city’s landscape and protect Zhaoqing from flooding and natural disasters.
For centuries, locals have regarded it as a spiritual guardian of the city.

Built with brick and stone, Chongxi Pagoda follows a classic octagonal layout and rises to 57.5 meters, making it an easily remarkable structure in Zhaoqing, creating a majestic presence, especially when viewed from the riverside.
