The highlight of Lovers’ Road is undoubtedly the Zhuhai Fisher Girl, the city’s most iconic landmark. Much like Guangzhou’s Five Rams Statue, the Fisher Girl has become the defining symbol of Zhuhai. Standing gracefully above Xianglu Bay, she represents beauty, romance, and the deep connection between the city and the sea.
An Iconic Sculpture
Created by renowned Chinese sculptor Pan He 潘鹤, the statue was completed in 1982. Made of granite and standing 8.7 meters tall, the sculpture depicts the fisher girl holding a luminous pearl high above her head.

The statue is inspired by a beloved local legend. According to the story, the daughter of the Dragon King descended from heaven, captivated by the beauty of the South China Sea. Disguised as a fisher girl, she lived among local fishermen and eventually fell in love with a young man from Zhuhai. Their love was tested by misunderstandings and hardship, but her devotion ultimately overcame every obstacle. The legend celebrates love, loyalty, and sacrifice : values closely associated with the spirit of Zhuhai.
The pearl symbolizes light, hope, and prosperity, while her serene expression and elegant posture convey both strength and gentleness. Together, these elements reflect Zhuhai’s maritime heritage and modern aspirations.
