In the heart of Shenzhen's Futian District as the same as Central Park, Lianhuashan Park offers a contrast between a peaceful landscape of wooded hills and a spectacular skyline of modern skyscrapers.

Its name, which translates to Lotus Hill Park, comes from its seven hilltops, whose arrangement evokes the shape of a blooming lotus.

About the Park

The park's defining feature is its summit plaza, where a bronze statue of Deng Xiaoping stands overlooking Futian's business district. The viewpoint brings together two distinct landscapes: the greenery of the park and the high-rise architecture that represents Shenzhen's rapid development.

From here, visitors can appreciate the layout of the Civic Center and the surrounding towers.

The statue also gives the park historical significance. Lianhuashan is not simply a scenic viewpoint, it is a place associated with the economic reforms and urban development that shaped modern Shenzhen.

About Deng Xiaoping

Deng Xiaoping (1904 - 1997) was a Chinese Communist leader born in Sichuan Province who studied in France as a young man and joined the Chinese Communist Party in 1924. After the founding of the People’s Republic of China in 1949, he held several important political positions. Following Mao Zedong’s death, Deng emerged as China’s paramount leader and launched major economic reforms in 1978, opening China to foreign investment and international trade. He promoted socialism with Chinese characteristics and established special economic zones, including Shenzhen, which helped transform China into a global economic power. Although his reforms contributed to rapid economic growth, Deng maintained Communist Party rule.

About the Areas

Away from the summit, Lianhuashan reveals a more relaxed side of urban life. Its landscapes are spread across several distinct areas:

- Lotus Lake: A scenic waterside area for quiet walks and resting among the greenery
- Kite Square: A large open lawn where families and visitors gather to fly kites and enjoy the outdoors
- Tropical gardens: Palm trees, flowering plants, and subtropical vegetation give the park its distinctive character
- Rainforest and Stream Valley: A landscaped area featuring lush planting and a more enclosed natural atmosphere
- Memorial Garden: A space commemorating the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone

When Flowers Take Centre Stage

One of the park's major annual highlights is its Bougainvillea Flower Exhibition. Bougainvillea is Shenzhen's official city flower, and the event transforms the park into a colourful display of floral installations, themed gardens, and horticultural arrangements.
