Known as the “First of the Seven Ancient City Gates”, Guangji Gate Tower stands as the most iconic entrance to Chaozhou’s historic old town. Directly aligned with the famous Guangji Bridge, it forms a spectacular architectural axis that has welcomed visitors for centuries.

Originally built in 1370 during the Ming Dynasty (Hongwu era), the tower is also commonly referred to as the East Gate Tower. It once served as a strategic defensive structure and ceremonial entrance to the city.

As you cross Guangji Bridge and step onto land, the imposing tower is crowned with the bold inscription:
“First Prefecture of Eastern Guangdong” (粤东首邑), a proud symbol of Chaozhou’s historical importance.
