A Quiet Cultural Escape in a typical Lingnan Architecture Historic Settlement

Shangyue Ancient Village developed during the Ming and Qing dynasties and has maintained much of its original layout. The village layout reflects the importance of family lineage and traditional social organization in rural southern China.

This model of Lingnan classical architecture is characterized by its traditional courtyard houses with grey brick-and-wood architecture and clan ancestral halls or gathering spaces protected by ancient gates and defensive walls. Each houses features signature components of this movement such as carved wooden beams, decorative doors, brick relief patterns and symbolic motifs
