A mix of martial arts, spirituality and cultural performances inside a masterpiece of Lingnan architecture

Dating back to the Northern Song Dynasty, the Foshan Ancestral Temple is known as the “Ancestor of All Temples” and remains the spiritual landmark of the city.
With a history spanning nearly a thousand years, it is not only a Taoist temple but also a vibrant cultural center preserving Lingnan architecture, folk traditions, and performing arts.

Spatial Design

The temple complex faces south and follows a strict central axis layout, covering 3,600 square meters.
Main structures are arranged symmetrically from south to north:

- Wanfu Stage : the largest and best-preserved ancient stage in Guangdong

- Bell and Drum Towers
- Main Gate (Sanmen)
- Wenkui Pavilion & Wu’an Pavilion
- Front Hall & Incense Pavilion
- Main Hall & Qingzhen Tower

Exhibition Halls

- Lingnan Sacred Domain Exhibition showcases the history of the temple hand houses a collection focused on Taoist and local folk culture

## Performances

The temple is an ideal place to experience through lively artistic and martial performances why Foshan is considered one of the richest Cantonese cultural destinations. It also complets the memorial halls, offering more clues about why the city is often called the cradle of modern kung fu.
