Blending traditional Lingnan architecture with a peaceful riverside setting, Yuejiang Tower is a popular stop for those exploring old Zhaoqing.
A Tower Rooted in Literary Culture
Historically, Yuejiang Tower was a place where scholars and officials gathered to admire the river scenery, compose poetry, and discuss literature. Its name 阅江 literally means Reading the River, reflecting the close connection between scholarship and nature in classical Chinese culture.
For centuries, the tower and its surroundings inspired until becoming part of Zhaoqing’s cultural identity.
Today, Yuejiang Tower remains a pleasant place for sightseeing and photography. Its elevated position makes it an ideal viewpoint to appreciate the changing scenery of the Xijiang River, especially at sunrise and sunset.
The combination of history, architecture, and river landscapes makes the tower particularly charming in the late afternoon and evening.
