Overlooking the Beijiang River in Qingyuan, Feilai Temple is surrounded by karst mountains, river landscapes and ancient rock formations. Mist, river fog and lush green mountains often create an almost mythical atmosphere around the temple, especially during rainy seasons.
Built into the mountainside near the famous Feilai Gorge Area, the temple combines natural beauty with centuries of Buddhist history.
The temple complex isn't only known for its scenic viewpoints but also for ancient stone inscriptions and cliffside pavilions accessible through mountain stairways. Like many historic Chinese mountain temples, Feilai Temple became associated with meditation, retreat and harmony between nature and spirituality.
The name 飞来 Feilai means Flying Arrival. According to local legend, the mountain rocks and temple site were believed to possess spiritual origins connected to Buddhist mythology and divine intervention.The temple remains an active Buddhist site where monks and worshippers continue traditional practices.
