Rising above the confluence of the Dongjiang and Xinfeng Rivers, Guifeng Tower is one of the most iconic historical landmarks in Heyuan, Guangdong Province.
With a history dating back nearly 900 years, this ancient pagoda combines cultural heritage, architectural beauty, and spectacular views of the city and surrounding waterways.
History
Built in 1132 during the Southern Song Dynasty, Guifeng Tower is one of the oldest surviving brick pagodas in Guangdong Province. The hexagonal tower stands approximately 43m tall and features an ingenious architectural design with seven exterior levels and fourteen interior levels. Its distinctive structure has earned it recognition as one of the most important historic towers along the Dongjiang River.
According to local legend, a giant turtle transformed into Guifeng Mountain to protect the region from floods. The tower was subsequently built on the mountain to safeguard the local population, giving rise to the names Guifeng Mountain and Guifeng Tower.
