Standing in the historic center of Shaoguan, Fengcai Tower is one of the city’s most iconic landmarks and an enduring symbol of northern Guangdong’s cultural heritage.
Overlooking the old riverside districts near the confluence of the Zhenjiang and Wujiang rivers, the tower has been originally built during the Ming Dynasty, and named in honor of the famous Tang Dynasty scholar and statesman Zhang Jiuling, whose literary elegance inspired the term 风采 Fengcai meaning style and distinguished talent.

A Landmark of Old Shaoguan
Fengcai Tower once stood at the heart of city’s commercial and transportation center. Before the development of railways, Shaoguan was a major river port linking Guangdong, Hunan, and Jiangxi provinces. Merchant boats once crowded the nearby rivers, making the surrounding district one of the busiest trading areas in southern China.
Today, Fengcai Tower remains one of the last surviving symbols of this prosperous historical era, showcasing classic Lingnan architectural influences.
Located near Shaoguan Centennial East Street, they form together part of the city’s restored historical waterfront district, blending historical architecture, shopping streets and local nightlife.
